The valley · Before Rome
No single story survived.
Only marks.
During the Iron Age, the communities later known as the Camunni lived among high passes, forests and metal-bearing mountains. Their world survives in settlements, burials, places of work and worship, and in signs cut into stone.
The fire
The mountain was opened. Metal came out.
Mining and metallurgy shaped work in the valley. In the dream, fire is more than a tool: it is the final passage of the ritual.
The deer
An animal, a guide, an offering.
Deer hunting is carved into the rock. Hyperarousal turns that surviving image into a presence that watches and leads.
